My neighbor bought a Craftsman DYT 4000 42" 2-blade rider a couple years ago and it mowed horribly.....yard looked awful. He paid a fortune having to buy right at season start too (like $1600 and change). I told him he needed to level it properly, not sure he ever did. Any obstruction, damaged pulley shaft, or seized pulley can be the cause of that. Check your belt and make sure it is properly routed and that it does not get hang up at at of the belt guides.My Craftsman YT4000 - won't leave "free wheel" mode. I've pushed the bypass lever all the way in but it will rolls freely. When I trace the bypass lever back I can feel it moving the switch on the transmission. Mower runs fine and blades will engage but it won't move forward or backward. Drive belt looks fine..
